Shabby Chic Flower Tutorial with Xyron and DCWV

Today I'd love to share a quick tutorial with you that will help you make your flowers more realistic.

I created these flowers as a topper on my Home Sweet Home gift box.  The paper collection I used is DCWV "Spiced Cider Stack".  Just lovely for the fall season.  Of course my Xyron glues helped me put it all together in no time.

So let's jump right in and see how to create these beautiful blooms.

Some of DCWV papers have a glossy finish and that is what I used on these flowers.  The first step is to cut out flower petals.  I used a Heartfelt Spellbinders die.

Turn the flowers over so the glossy side is down and spritz them with water.  Leave them for a minute or so to let the water saturate the paper.

Using a fine pair of tweezers and your fingers bend and wrinkle each petal as shown.

Using a sponge dauber rub ink along all the folds, creases and edges of the petals.  Your petals should still be a bit damp and the distress inks will bleed just a little bit, which is perfect.

Using McGill flower tools and foam pad and cup the center of your petals.

Be sure your petals are all dry.  If they aren't you can dry them with a heat gun.  Take Xyron's Adhesive Dots and place one in the center of a petal.  Then adhere your next petal up and work upward until you have a full flower.  The adhesive dots let you build a flower very quickly.

Finish your flower centers with a pearl, rhinestone or in my case I used a KaiserCraft Sparklet.  It's whatever you would like.

Here are more pictures of my finished box.

Two for Tags

Christmas tags are such a fun hot thing to make this year.  Everybody loves tags and it's something a little different than just a card.  These are two different tags I made for KasierCraft's Design Team using " Santa's List Collection ".  It's a fun, bright, poppy collection that is one you'll be sure to want for this season.

I wish you could see all the layering and the height that I get on my projects.  It really makes them a show stopper when you see them in person.  Sometimes pictures just don't do them justice.

See you on Friday.

Xyron, Graphic 45 and Petaloo Halloween Tower

Who doesn't love Halloween and especially when it paired up with some of the best craft goodies on the market?   Graphic 45 is known for their must have paper collections and " Steam Punk Spells " certainly fits the bill.  The paper has a vintage feel with vibrant colors and fun designs that make the latest release from Petaloo flowers mix together perfectly. I had such a blast creating this Halloween Home Décor Tower and I was able to pull everything together with all of my Xyron Glue Favorites.

I started with three plain wooden block I picked up at my local craft store.  I painted the block black for my base and then started building up the layers.  My 5" Creative Station from Xyron helped me make large block stickers for the paper tile bases.  Honestly everything came together so quickly on this project.  I guess that just goes to show you what you can do with the right supplies.

The Letters and finial were painted with crackled paint as well as the paper mache pumpkin and I layered and layered to give the piece a lot of character.  Once the paint was dry I rubbed with ink to highlight the crackle finish and on the finial I sanded as well to add a bit more distressing.

I love nestling flowers in clusters on a project and I thought the metal keys fit the top cluster perfectly.

I must say this is one of those projects that I will really enjoy decorating my home with during the Halloween season.
