Valentine's A Day Late

OK, I know I'm a day late for Valentine's Day, but I had to share this adorable card I created for my son for Valentine's Day.  It can sometimes be a bit tricky to create a Valentine's Day card for a boy, pinks can make that a challenge, LOL.

This little Magnolia sailor is just hanging around ready to pledge how " Hooked on U" he is.  The card base is a modified Joy Fold card using  my Cheery Lynn Dies  French Flair Scalloped Stackers and the French Pastry Doily and my handy dandy Scor-Pal.   

The interior of the card is adorned using several dies, Coved Rectangle Classic Die  and my favorite Two of Hearts.   The hearts are just stunning in person, so much detail, you certainly will use these a lot more than just Valentines Day.

Don't Box Me In

KaiserCraft offers so many beyond the page projects that are ready to be altered and added.  They have anything from mini chests, frames, plaques and boxes.....like this little purse box that would be perfect to hold a gift, or just be the gift.  

The collection I used from KasierCraft is the Botanical Odyssey that was just released last month.  It offers the hot color combo of turquoise and purple.   Just look in any of the fashion catalogs and you'll see it being used.  I love to look for inspiration on in fashion mags and see how to convert it over to my work.

Die Cuts Make it Elegant

This card just screams elegant to me.  Granted the collection I used from KasierCraft " Botanical Odyssey "  is stunning, but I really feel it's the use of the dies that really just push it over the top.  The boldness of the black background makes it stand out and really highlight the base die.  

I stacked numerous dies giving the card a lot of depth.

Dance Like Nobody's Watching

I've always love that saying " Dance like nobody's watching "  So I knew it would be the perfect sentiment for my project.  I paired it up with some beautiful handmade roses, borders and of course the stunning frame.  It turned out so elegant.  I love how detailed and fine the designs can be with Cheery Lynn Dies and I think this card really showcases that aspect.

Years ago I had a small rose bush called " Hot Tamale".  The small roses were hot pink and orange and it remains one of my favorite roses of all times.  I really tried to capture the " Hot Tamale" vibe with my roses by shading my card stock.  There are so many different ways you can add depth to your coloring of flowers, chalk, inks, watercolor pencils and even markers.  Have some fun and experiment with your coloring/shading.

Class Act Mini Book

Who doesn't love mini books?  They are so much fun to make and I just love all the little details that mini books offer.  This was a mini book I made for my son Cole using the Class Act Collection from KaiserCraft.  

With all of KaiserCraft's collections they have a product called Collectables.  They are die cuts that coordinate with the collections and they make clustering so easy.  Use a little dimensional tape for various depths , some of the collectables and you have interest in your project in no time.

Dreams Can Come True

This is a card I created for KaiserCraft's Design Team using the collection Marigold.  Orange is my favorite color so, this collection was one I was really drawn to.  I had seen a card created using the accordion background and adapted that idea to this card.

Confessions of a Flower Junkie

Hi my name is Lori and yes, I am a flower junkie. LOL, I say this because flowers are my latest addiction.  I'm having so much fun creating flowers as of late.  I love to see what kind of flower I can make and what dies I can use to do it.  The good news is I'm set with my Cheery Lynn Dies, that's for sure.

Today I made Poppies.  Poppies are actually my favorite flowers.  They are so rich and stunning with their colors yet are so delicate, almost fragile with their petals, lovely, just lovely.

In talking about being creative with the dies, can you believe I actually used one of our newest tags to help create the center of the flowers?  Yeap,  the Tags 3 made the perfect green dome for the center of my flowers. 

I look forward to sharing with you in coming weeks some of the other flowers I've created.  I know you're going to love them.

First Grade with Class Act

It's hard to believe this is actually a 1st grade picture of my little boy....he looks so big in it, especially considering he's was only six.  The Class Act collection is one of several featured / new this month from KaiserCraft.  It's super cute with still that vintage feel that KaiserCraft is so superb at.

 I took some of KaiserCraft's wooden flourishes and created enameled charms for my layout...don't they look cute, dangling off the title?

I created a small mini book for the front of my layout that holds additional journaling.

Finally, just because I love them I had to throw a simple banner along the top.  I love KaiserCrafts new wooden letter (GRADE)...they are so delicate but sturdy to hold up to some embellishing (ex: heat embossing).

Cascading Card Tutorial

Products Used: Scor-Pal, Scor Pal Tape, Scor-Pal Tool, Simple Stories:Fabulous Collection, Card Stock, Dies

This is such a simple card tutorial that will make your cards look like a show stopper.  I love the dimension that is achieved with this design.  Let’s look at how to create this beautiful  Cascading Card.

Step One: Cut card stock  8 x 10 ½”.  Laying the card stock long ways, mark a dot at the 2 ½ “ down from the top and rotate paper to do on the opposite side.  This will create a slanting line. 

Step Two: Line your marked dots up and cut to form as shown in the picture.

Step Three: Score at 1 ¾ “ , 3 ½”,  5 ¼”, 7”, and 8 ¾”.  Do this on both sections of paper.  Once you have all the lines scored crease in alternating mountains and valley folds and crease with your Scor-Pal Tool. 

Step Four: Measure down your first score line ( 1 ¾) to 2  ½ “ and on your last score line ( 8 ¾”) measure down  1 ½”.  This will be half way between on both sides.  Cut down from the top to the measured place creating a slit.  You will do this on both pieces however on the second piece instead of cutting from the top down, cut from the bottom up. 

Step Five:  Slide your two pieces together using the slots created.  I glued my flaps together using Scor Pal Tape and so the front and back would layout flat.  Decorate as desired
