To The Men I Adore......Happy Father's Day

Tomorrow is Father's Day and I can't think of two men I respect and love more than my husband and my father. Growing up my Daddy was a terrific example of what love is. He's the kind of man who does something for someone else, but never tells them. He's truly is an unsung hero from the shadows and if everything else in this world could be questioned...it would never be his love. I was truly blessed by God to get such a wonderful Father. If one terrific example of a man in my life wasn't enough, I got blessed with another when I married my husband. When he starts to play with our boys I get confused who the children are and whose the adult. He knows how to have some fun and is such a loving father to our boys. But I truly respect that he understands and knows when to take up the fatherly role and get serious. I know our children will grow up never questioning their father's love and I think that will give them such a confidence to succeed. I admire both of these men so much! I made each of them a card for tomorrow, along with their gifts. My husband is a photographer and loves the beautiful mountains that we live in, so his included the mountains. My father is a long time fly fisherman but he never takes the time he should to go relax and do it more...needless to say his is the fishing card. I really liked the new technique I used on my father's card...... I stamped the image with versa mark ink and then embossed and heat gunned it....then I sponged color over the stamped imagine. I think it gave a beautiful negative of the stamp. I was pleased and I know they both will be. I hope my husband doesn't look at my blog tonight...never thought he did until he told me last week he did, but hopefully he'll be to busy tonight and it will still be a surprise tomorrow. I pray all the Father's out there have a blessed and loved Father's Day!

First Card Making Workshop....It was a lot but a lot of fun!!!

Tonight was the first workshop for card making...we tackled 8 cards and got most of them done. We covered all kinds of techniques like random stamping, embossing, faux and real sewing, stamping, foam embossing and many many more. I had a great time with a lot of wonderful friends and I look forward to seeing you all in July! Great job ladies.

Don't forget the Thank you

In this day and age with computers, cell phones and probably lots of other technical things I don't even know about, we forget the art of Thank you's. Recently I made a card for a friend of mine that I really didn't even think that much about...I just made it up and gave it to her. When she opened it she got tears in her eyes and said she would keep it forever. I could tell she really cherished it and though it may not be kept forever, I knew it really touched her and meant a lot. This is something that I just forgot with my busy life and I was really blessed to be reminded of. Giving something of yourself to someone means so much more than buying a gift or shooting out an email, remembering to say THANK YOU. My challenge to you today is think of someone that has done something that has touched your life, maybe a your mother who helps with your children, or a friend that is always there if you call everyday or once every six months, the neighbor next door who always smiles when you see them in the yard... just someone that has done something nice for you ....little or big. I want to thank all of you who are reading this and taking time out of your busy lives to hear what I think. THANK YOU!!

June's Stamp Of The Month : Tender Tags

Tender Tags : June's Stamp of the Month

I just love all the wonderful stamp of the months that Close to My Heart puts out. This month is no exception. I decided today I would sit down and make a couple of cards with this really cute stamp set.

On the first card I used the Back Country paper pack and the layout " Folded Focus" from the new Wishes book. I really love all the cards in the Wishes book that include little peep holes, circles and things that just seem to think outside of the box... Great book if you don't have it yet. With the olive ink pad I random stamped the interior of the card. The real creation here was the 3-D flower, where I used the Tender Tag stamps and cut off half of the tag...then folded and sewed the tags together to create the flower and give it a great POP! To top of the flower I folded and rolled a scrap piece of Back Country to be the center of the flower and glued it in place with a little liquid glass. I really loved the finished product on this and that you would never realize how altered the stamp was.

On the second card I used the Animals Cookies paper pack from CTMH and chose the layout "GALLERY" from the new Wishes Book. I random stamped the background of my card using Dutch Blue, Tulip and Sunflower inks along with the thanks stamp included in the Tender Tags set. I was really trying to think outside of the box with this stamp set. Of course, it's cute tags, but I wanted to use it as design elements not tags. Butting the stamped images of the tags together really made for a nice border edge. I used pop dots on the trees so it gives the card a little more dimension.

I challenge you to take some of you favorite stamps and try to think how you could alter them and make something new out of them verses just the obvious. It can be really fun, not to mention how it can get those old creative juices flowing.
